It's Carnival time, with the Community event in its 26th year here in the town.

2008's theme is ‘Festivals of the World’. The carnival parade will be processing through the town centre at midday tomorrow, Saturday 28th June. It will arrive back at Stanhope Park where there will be entertainment from local bands, street theatre, charity stalls, children’s entertainment and lots more.

You can also book tickets for the evening event - Offf the Wall are playing at the Arts Centre . Tickets are available from the Box Office on 486555 @ £5 each, with all the proceeds going to Family Help.

Good luck with the carnival, I know many people look forward to it and that there are also many people who put in work "behind the scenes" and get no recognition. So to everyone...

Have a nice day!

Thanks for that Ian - you're quite right about the immense amount of effort that's necessary in the 12 months prior to the Carnival taking place.

Here's a more detailed itinery of the day which I received this morning;

"The parade starts at noon at the Arts Centre, carries on through the town centre and ends in Stanhope Park at 1pm where there will be children’s workshops and free family entertainment and activities until 5pm. There will also be a NewBlood Live concert, with bands performing courtesy of the Council’s Youth Service and The Forum.

"From 8pm, the fun moves inside with R&B band Off The Wall performing at the Arts Centre.
The theme of this year's event is Festivals of the World and community groups of all ages are taking part in the event. Sculptures inspired by the weather, including a giant fish, will form part of the procession.
All money raised at the carnival will go to local charity Family Help, which helps victims and survivors of domestic abuse."
